I’m sure you remember these cookies from your childhood. Mamaw McGee, Sue Patrick Richard’s grandmother, taught me how to make DoDo Balls in the 4th grade and I have never forgotten the recipe. Sue says I have this recipe down to a ‘fine art’. Anyone who has been to my home has eaten DoDo Balls. This is a family tradition! Yes, we really call them DoDo Balls – the humor of a 4th grader – what can I say?
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk
3 tablespoons cocoa, not heaping
1 stick of butter
Cook above ingredients in heavy sauce pan over medium heat. Bring to low boil for 1 and 1/2 minutes. Don’t start your time until mixture is boiling and be careful not to scorch! The cookies should be moist, not hard or dry. Remove from heat, and add:
1/2 cup peanut butter (I put much more peanut butter-close to 1 cup),
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 heaping cups oatmeal (the kind that cooks in 1 minute).
Mix well and drop onto wax paper. I use a melon scoop and make small size drop cookies.
Thank u This is my dads fav. type cookies and he has not have any sence is mom die 😦
Thank you so much for this recipe I have been searching for a while for these. Not even Quaker knew what I was asking for. My kids loved these when they were young. My Son who now is 30 wanted me to make them and I had lost my recipe.
Growing up my mom use to make these, we called them chocolate doo doo balls. What’s the real name? I would love to have some now, it’s been years since I had them.
We still make them all the time. My 10 year old granddaughter makes them all by herself now. We’re so proud of her.
Lynn – we make these all the time. People often call them ‘no bake cookies’ or ‘drop cookies’.
I love this story! My 10 year old granddaughter makes them now. I’m passing the baton to her now!
Hi Patti – couldn’t find my recipe for these today – and thought I remembered you having it – Thanks!
I remember Mrs. Patti cooking these for us when we were little. These are still my favorite. I am fixing to make a batch for my little ones, and I know they are gonna love them as much as I do.
Krit, you are so sweet!!! Yes, I made many a batch of Do Do Balls for you, Jon and all the neighborhood kids. Enjoy making sweet memories with your babies.

-Patti

Wow, DoDo Balls. We used to make these all the time from a recipe in my daddy’s old KWKH cookbook. I always thought everyone called these DoDo Balls, but after having several people give me very strange looks when I call them DoDo Balls, I’ve decided it might just be a Sunset Acres name for these cookies!
Hello Patti! The pictures of all your goodies look mouthwateringly delicious, I can’t wait to try and recreate some of these recipes! All the best! your inbound buddy!
